Wow…

December 30, 2006

Yeah.. how do i describe the Gopher football team. Hmmm no words come to mind right now. I mean i don’t really care about football but wow. It’s hard to miss that in the Morning paper. That was badddd. I mean i don’t even no what to say to lose when you were once winning by 31 points how do you lose! Jezz! Man I am sure glad I am not a Gopher football fan. I mean first of all you aren’t even ina good bowl game to begin with and then you get a big lead and go down in history for the worst loss pretty much of all time! good greif! I’m done I just don’t even no what to say about it.

Gopher Hockey:
Yeah, they beat Alabama-Huntsville. Uh where is that? I didn’t know they had ice in Alabama… Anyways yeah they won 3-1 With goals by Jimmy O’Brien, Ryan Flynn, and Ben Gordon. The game wasn’t televised but i watched the highlights and read the paper and i guess all the goals were in the first period and the Gophers kind of shut down i guess. There were eight penalties on Alabama-Hunstville and we only scored on one. Hmmm doesn’t sound like gopher hockey to me but whatever. Then the goal that AH scored was with 19 seconds left in the game. Ouch poor Briggs. That’s why you gotta get the rebounds away from your net. Don Lucia said that defensivly they got sloppy after the first period. Lucia also said that dome of the defenseman might get a chance to play forward. Ha ha i think that’s funny but cool. Hopefully, they know what they are doing.

Schwan Cup
I watched the boys game all day on Thursday and they were some pretty weird game. First off Hill Murry v.s. White Bear Lake. It took the refs about 2 and a half minutes to get the players to play hockey. They stood there after the lineups and the National anthem and stared at each other. Nobody moved and finally the refs counted to three and they moved. I thought it was entertaining but it was also a waste of to minutes. The final score was 3-2 and i thought it was a bit sad that White Bear Lake lost. I mean they have a great hockey program but they weren’t moving there feet at all. Yeah i know that they played three games in three days but to beat Hill you need to keep your feet moving. I was most impressed by both goalies on both sides. The sad part was Aaron Corey was totally keeping White Bear in the game and then in the 2nd period Hill scored and the coach took him out of the game. I thought he was doing a great job but maybe they didn’t want to over work him or something. He also did look tired too. Joe Phillippi was amazing. Wow i haven’t seen good goaltending liekt hat in a while. He was awazing on Penalty kills and he just completly shut down White Bear. Well excpet for those two goals but other than that he was great. One thing i did questionw as why after the buzzer sound he watched the shot come in on net and hit the post. I mea the buzzer sounded but it was still a little weird. Mike Hoeffel was also at the game and was interviewd by none other than Ali Lucia! Wow its a family affair on FSN. My uncle said that she looks nervous when she is interviewing people but i thought she was fine. I mean she ins’t a Marney Gellner but she is good. Mike is playing in Anarbor and will play for the Gophers next year! YEAAAA! I saw him play last year in the Boys hockey tournament last year and he looked pretty good. So shove it North Dakota.

Minnetonka v.s. Maple Grove
That game was a flippin joke. Oh my gosh i thought for sure that Minnetonka would win by a lot more. In the first like 2 minutes of the game Minnetonka should have had liek two goals but thank god for Maple Groves goalie Tony Renstrom. He kept them in the game and Minnetonka kept it in MG’s zone. The whole game was played there and Minnetonka wins 4-0.

Edina vs Cretin-Derham Hall

All I have to say is ha ha ha ha ha. Wow the numer what 2 or 3 team int ehs tate gets their asses handed to them because they didn’t work hard. ha ha ha. Well i guess i shoudn’t say that the goalie Ben Hause played a great game ebcause 3 of those goals there was absolutly nothing he could do. the defenseman left a guy open in the slot and he hit a one timer and the crowd cheered. end of story. Also another person who worked hard was Ryan I don’t know his last name but also Drew Darwitz he worked hard and it was nice to see someone working.

Centennial 2 vs #1 Holy Angles 8

The title says it. I feel bad for Centennial I mean their team is like really young. They were in the game in the first period and then came Britton, Yes Britton as in Britian, Smith and Danny MAttson who both had hat tricks. Yeah two people with hat ricks that sucks. I can’t believe that someone would name their kid Britton. Wow! Anyways i really wish Centennial could have pulled off the upset. It also would have been nice because they beat Warroad. Oh well maybe next year.

Wild:
Ha ha that was so tight to see Wes Walz get a goal where he didn’t even have to shoot. he he i love goals like that and it is even better that it was in overtime btu yes the wild win 4-3 so tahts good now hopefully they don’t lose to the Ducks. They seriously shoudl have kept the name Mighty Ducks I mean do you agree with me that Ducks sounds weird? hmmm i don’t understand. Hopefully this is a turn around for the team and they start winning at home AND on the road!

Well that’s it for now!

Wild or not so Wild?

December 28, 2006

Dude what the heck is up with the Wild? I mean come on this is the fricken NHL. I have seen highschool games better than the Redwings game i was watching tonight. They had it all going for them at the beginning of the season and now it is just blah. I am going to the game on New Years Eve and I really hope they don’t waste my time. I guess it would help if we had Gaborik back but still. One person cannot lead a team expecially a NHL team. Then again look at Sidney Crosby. The goaltending is pretty fricken bad I mean come on you are in the net for a reason make a flippin save for goodness sake. I was watching the last 5 mintues of the game and I was watching them reach for the puck and make lame passes and I’m like I saw better passes in my game tonight. I really wish they could start winning some games expecially on the road. You can’t be great at home and then suck on the road it doesn’t work that way. Come on Boys step it up! I want to see some serious action please!

Now to the gophers:

They play in the Dodge Holiday Classic this weekend and they will have to play with out Kyle Okposo, Ryan Stoa, Erik Johnson, Mike Carmen and Jeff Frazee. It’s going to suck butt that we won’t have Kyle but we have played with out him before so we will just have to step it up. I am excited to see the games thought because I want to see how well the other players step up while these five are gone. Hopefully it won’t get shoved back in our faces and we won’t get cocky like we did when we played Mankato. I want to see some of the 3rd and 4th liners play with the big boys! Anyways hopefully we can come out with a sweep of this thing and get ready for a difficult second half. I also hope the Wild will step it up and get back into the groove because there is a good chance Gabby ain’t coming back anytime soon.

Tony Lucia’s Goal

December 27, 2006

Yeah this is way old news i know this but i can’t really help it because i was on Youtube and i was watching the replay again and i can’t believe that some badger fans are saying it isn’t a goal. It is total BS to even think about replaying it as people are saying on this blog: http://westerncollegehockey.blogspot.com/2006/11/you-make-call.html
go to it and look at the BS some people are writing. and then you go on youtube to view the video and look at some of the comments like one of them said Brian Elliot got checked in the head. Whatever he did not get checked in the head that is flippin stupid to even post that comment because the only reason Mike Carmen ran into Elliot and take him out of the play was because of the Badger player that ramed him into the goalie. The Badger player should have gotten and interference call on that too so if the ref would have even thought about reviewing it he would have called a pentalty on him. I also don’t understand how the Badgers fans have their undies in a bunch over it because the coaching staff didn’t bitch about it so why are all of them. It is stupid to review it and im glad that they didn’t. Tony’s goal was a great goal and it proved how hard you need to work and that is great that he could have his first goal like that so why don’t people stop complaining and get over it.

Here is the Video for those of you who are wondering what i am talking about:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8XSkIOJO78E

Gophers

December 26, 2006

hmmmmmm… where to start with the gophers. they are number 1 in the WCHA and they are what 15-3-1? Something like that right? Yup that is the gopher mens hockey team for you… but how are the women doing? 11-2-1 not as bad as I thought. They are number 2 in the WCHA. But lets get back to the Men’s hockey team since they are the ones to focus on. The gophers have a huge freshman class this year. The freshman class has some talent yes but some of the players I question. 1 in particular Erik Johnson. First in the First round draft pick last year over Kyle okposo i think that is pure BS. kyle has a hell of a lot more skill than Erik. i just don’t see how he is that good. To me he just doesn’t seem to be all he is cracked up to be. I have watched abotu all of the Gopher games this year and i watch him and he jsut seems to make stupid decisions and he doesn’t seem to be taht physical. sure against the Mavericks he did get a little physical but other than that to me he just seems to be a big ugly blob out there. Then you look up to the forwards and you see Kyle and you say yes there is some NHL material. I’m not saying Erik isn’t a good hockey player im just saying his skill doesn’t stand out much this year. I know for a fact it isn’t because he a defenseman because you look at Mike Vannelli and Alex Goligoski and they have talent but they have also played in the WCHA for 3 and 4 years. So hopefully with experiance comes skill because to me he is not ready for the NHL and I don’t think he will be any time soon. Kyle is a special player as i see it. its going to suck not having him out there a game against the Mavericks since they knocked us off our pedestal a couple weeks ago. To me we just go a tad bit cocky focusing more on their record then their skill. Its the WCHA its a tough league no matter if you play UND or Mankato.

So here is the roster:
1. Jeff Frazee- I like him but I dono if i like him or Briggs better
4. Erik Johnson- Like i said he’s okay but he doesn’t make me thing oh my gosh he should be in the NHL like Kyle.
5. Derek Peltier- I haven’t seen him play much he does have a pretty storng shot tho so that is good expecially because he is a defenseman…
6. R.J. Anderson- haven’ seen him play much either so i can’t really say much but i no he did go to cenntenial and he was on that team when they won state.
9. Kyle Okposo- he has a ton of talent all you have to do is watch all of the replays of his Mankato game. It was soo tight i mean that is like amazing. To me he should have been the First person to be picked in the NHL draft but what ever.
10. Alex Goligoski- I would be afraid of his shot he just rips this shot from hell and it’s like pshh i would jump out of the way! hes a solid dsefenseman too and we need people like that so that is good.
12. Tony Lucia- obviously he is Don’s son and all but i think he is a pretty good hockey player. I like him on that line with Carmen and Flynn its working out nice for him and i also think that he probley works the hardest on the team. he backchecks and he can take and give a pretty nice check ( is that how you spell it, wow that is sad i should probley no taht since i play hockey!)
13. Ben Gordon- he is tough and thats good hockey is very physical and i think he is right up there with skill too. He plants himself at the side of the net and is ready to bang one in.
14. Justin Bostrom- Haven’t really seen him play i think he has been hurt or sumthing but i don’t think i have seen him play so im just going to go with what the gopher web site says about him: he’s a good point scorer so that is good expecially with Tyler Hirsch being a senior this year and Bostrom being a Freshman.
15.- Mike Vannelli- he’s strong and a good team leader obv. he is th Captin and all but yeah it hink hes a good defenseman and he’s got a nice shot too and i defenatily like him partners with Goligoski.
16. Mike Carmen- dono much about him but i like him with Lucia and Flynn. So i will go with what the site says again: he’s physical and is a good forechecker. There you go all you need in a forward. he he.
17. Blake Wheeler- Love the number. uhh Blake is a great hockey palyer i ahve nothign bad to say abotu him. he moves the puck well has a nice shot and is a good play maker too.
18. Jimmy O-Brien- He is only 17! Wow. he’s pretty good but he is a freshman and i think he needs to get stronger and get a little more hockey smarts and all nbut overall he is a good puck handler and he is agressive so that’s good.
19. Evan Kaufmann- no fricken clue sorry… uh once again can i have a life line: strong shot, playmaker, hardworking. there you go if hes a hard worker he is a great hockey palyer because you need to work hard in order to be able to skate with some of the people in the WCHA.
20. David Fischer- Defenseman hes pretty good i don’t really know about how good he is tho he doesn’t stand out that much to me but i will say its pretty hard to come from highschool to the WCHA so considering i probley couldn’t make that change as well as most of these guyz have i should probley shut up. But its my job and i think he will get better but it isn’t like he is horrible. To me he is just a bit above average.
21. Tom Pohl- dude no offense but i hadn’t even heard of him. so lets have another life line please: Tall, good offensive skills, nice guy.
22. Ryan flynn- ha ha him and my cousin are friends. umm ryan is a hard worker too as you can tell by the way he helped Tony Lucia get his game winning goal against Wisconsin. He works hard and doesn’t give up.
23. Tyler Hirsch- he is a goal scorer no doubt about it. He is a great player and he is defentily going to de missed next year. uh hes a great stick handler and ll but he seems liek hes kind of a hot head? i dont know him but thats what it seems like.
24. Mike Howe- good goal scorer and he does have a nice shot ha ha this is from the site too cuz i don’t really know much about some of these guys but i ahve seen him play and hes a good player.
26. Jay Barriball- i was watching him on Rosen sports sunday a couple weeks ago and he is funny. anyways um hes a good hockey palyer too. he makes things happen and thats the key. you need team work and i watched him give the puck to his teamates all night long vs Mankato.
27. Brian Schack- never actully seen him out on the ice but im sure he has been there so i dono but he is funny too. gooad at skating the puck, nice combination of size and mobility jsut to name a few *winks*
29. Ryan Stoa- He is a great passer stick handler and shooter. hes just great all around like almost all of the other players on the roster. I mean he has to be pretty good since he made the Junior team.
64. Kellen Briggs- The only non-Minnesotan on this roster. He was a maniac during the Mankato series. He totally held us in the game on saturday. Hes awesome.
35. Brent Solei: another goalie. he played in one game and i think he lost or i don’t know but hopefully we get to see him some more maybe this weekend against Alabama-huntsville er what ever.

To me most of all this Gopher team is jam packed full of good players and NHL drfat picks like : Erik Johnson, Kyle Opkoso, David Fischer, Blake Wheeler, Mike Vannelli, Ryan Flynn, Tony Lucia, Jeff Frazee, Derek Peltier, R.J. Anderson, Alex Goligoski, Mike Carmen, JAy Barriball, and Ryan Stoa. Wow pretty much everyone. But like i was saying this team is full of a lot of potential and so was last years with Ryan Potulny and all of them so we miss them but we have peopel to pick up where they left off and hopefully we can make it into the Frozen Four again.
