YES!!!!!!!! ALL MINNESOTA TEAM! This is Minnesota Hockey. I dont kno much about the incoming freshman. I have only seen Patrick White and Mike Hoeffel play. They were both definitly stand outs on the ice. But that was highschool hockey and this is D1 college. I’m excited to see all the freshman play. obviously they have some kind of potential or they wouldn’t be here. obviously we have only one veteran on the blue line but that just means other people on the team need to step up and learn fast…

The University of Minnesota Golden Gophers opened their 2007-08 season last weekend in the IceBreaker Invitational at the Xcel Energy Center against RPI. The Gophers got a quick wake-up call falling behind in the first period 1-0 and then in the 2nd period 3-0. The 1st and 2nd periods are probably the ones the Gophers would like to forget about but ing the 3rd period the Gophers came and rallied to win 4-3 with Kyle Okposo scoring with a minute left in the game. Jeff Frazee led the Gophers to victory with 25 saves. The Gophers looked sluggish all game with just bearly breezing past RPI. The Gophers knew they would have to play better against Michigan the following night. The Gophers came out in the 1st period and put up goals by R.J. Anderson, his first as a Gopher, and Blake Wheeler, his second of the season. Michigan refused to give up coming back and scoring once in the 2nd and twice in the 3rd. The Gophers held on with a stop by Jeff Frazee late in the game. Allong with that stop Frazee stopped 44 shots. I would like to say that the Gophers played better on Saturday against Michigan but they really didn’t. They looked great in the 1st period but something fell out of place with the Gophers looking sluggish the rest of the game. The Gophers took a blow when Ryan Stoa left the game with a knee injury. The Gophers found out on Monday that Stoa would not be back this season as hes having surgery on his knee. Stoa is expected to return next year for his senior year.

Above is the 2007-2008 schedule for the Gophers. YAY! I’m very excited for this year. This years is going to be very entertaining seeing as we play both Wisconsin and North Dakota twice this year. Ahh yes it will be a fantastic hockey season. The only downer it that Alex Goligoski went pro. That means that only Derek Peltier will be the only senior on the blue line. The Gophs will definitly need to see something from R.J. Anderson and DAvid Fischer. I also think that they are going to put Jimmy O’Brien on the blue line. I thought that was intresting since he was on the fourth line the whole year last year. but hey who am i to judge. I am very excited that Kyle Okposo is staying for at least another year. I knew he would stay. The Islanders dont want him to come yet. They dont really need him right now anyway. I can see why the Penguins would want Alex to come this year. But Alex will definitly be missed. He was my favorite player. The freshman coming in look to have good skill quality. two of them were on the Sioux Falls team that won the Clark Cup this year. Patrick White from Grand Rapids seems to be a good addition. I saw him play in the state tourney. Definitly a grinder. All in All this year should be a great year. Looking forward to giving you all the low down on all the gopher wins.

Gopher Hockey: That’s 2 but 3 is still a charm

Ah what wounderful weekends of hockey we have had. Well probley not if your a Sioux fan or Badger fan but that’s okay you’ll get over it. Old news we won the MacNaughton cup by beating Michigan Tech whatever they didn’t even make it into the Final Five which pissed me off because i didn’t even want Wisconi in the tournament because they suck and Elliot needs to just go sign a damn pro contract so they can suck even more…. ha ha ha. Anyways so then the Gopher faced off against the Badgers and beat them with Blake Wheeler getting the Hat Trick. I do have to say one thing about the Badgers though. Brian Elliot is seriously the shit. It’s hard to say that but he does deserve a lot of credit for the team even making it to the Final Five but other than that the badgers suck. So it was very impressive for Blake Wheeler to get a Hat Trick. The Fighting Sioux beat the shit out of St.Cloud which I enjoyed watching. So that ment that the Fighting Sioux and the Minnesota Golden Gophers would get one more chance to bitch at each other across the bench. It was very entertaining to listen to the announcer named Kevin G. tell us all what was going on between the benches. It kept me busy when I got bored watching the Gophers in the Sioux end all the time. Oh and I should probley mention that the Sioux won the Final Five last year. Wow lets all click our heels together for them. Maybe we will give Oshie and Toews a beer while we are at it. While we are on that topic I think it is fucken bullshit that Bina got to play after he let his 2 underaged teamates out of a cop car. That is BS but then again they are all soooooooo important to the Sioux. Yeah well Davey boy maybe you should have though of that when you were putting Toews and Oshie out there and killing all of your penalties. I think he screwed himself but who am I to judge I’m just a kid. So the Gophers beat the Sioux in a thrilling overtime game (Which shouldn’t have went in to overtime) with Blake Wheeler getting the diving goal. Oh and I still Love how the Sioux fans bitch and bitch and bitch about the goal because it was against them. god, don’t you people have lives. It was a goal your just jealouse because for once you were getting your asses handed to you. Now to the Flynn goal that was waved off. Its a bitch and all but Tony Lucia fanned on it so yeah. But you can see in the replay he was trying to get up. but whatever all that matters is that we beat the Sioux and alls well ends well. Now on to the NCAA tourney where we play Air force and if we beat them we either play Michigan or North Dakota. Wow I’m so unimpressed. Now the Sioux get to get their hopes up that they beat Michigan and get to play us. Yeah well just so you know we are all pulling for Michigan so we can wave good bye as we head to the Frozen Four. It should be a great weekend of hockey and I hope you all have you brackets filled out and ready to go. And if any of you are pulling for and upset again. Don’t bet on it because Donny Lucia is making sure that doesn’t happen.

Gophers VS Michigan Tech

So we won the MacNaughton Cup. We beat out St.Cloud but they won the DQ cup. What ever thats fine they can have it. Um friday nights game was a lot better than Saturday nights game. Not just because we won the cup and all but we just played a lot better on friday. Maybe that had something to do with the fact that Kellen was in the net and not Jeff. God what is up with him!? It’s like when Robbie Bina got that goal against him. All Robbie had to do was throw the puck at Jeff and it went in. Yeah ROBBIE WAS ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE RINK! My point is made. umm friday night like I said was better. The whole team in general was working hard and it showed because they won 3-1. Mich scored first but then we came back and all that stuff. On to saturday night. For god sakes how hard is it for the fricken ref to call a tripping penalty, a holding/hooking, penalty, or how about interference! What the heck. I’m not blaming the loss on the refs because it wasn’t there fault but come on the guy has his hands over the puck and the gophers cant get it because apparently it would be slashing. It was really annoying how there were two 5 on ‘s for the huskies but when there should have been an obviouse one for us he didn’t call it. anyways im done. But first i just want to thank North Dakota for beating the shit out of St.Cloud in “The Dog Pound”

arg! okay so friday nights game was a waste of mine and everyone elses time! for god sakes the Gophers looked like crap! it was like a flash back of the North Dakota series. Saturday night oh my gosh don’t even get me started what the hell! Somebody needs to inform the Gophers that it is a three period game not two periods. They went out there and embarassed themselves both games. It’s okay because today we play a team that is .500 but that means little in the WCHA the Gophers need to prove to everyone that they deserve to be number 1 and hey ALL YOU NEEDED LAST WEEKEND WAS A POINT AND YOU BLEW IT! Anyways it doesn’t matter because we need to focas on Mich. Tech. The huskies are fighting for home ice in the playoffs. personally i don’t think they deserve it because there are better teams out there who actully deserve it.
